Governor Schwarzenegger Releases His 2010/2011 Proposed Budget
Proposes a scenario with complete elimination of the IHSS program

On Friday, January 8, 2010 Governor Schwarzenegger released his proposed budget for the next fiscal year, due to start in June of 2010. His message to California’s seniors and persons living with disabilities is simple: The Governor is proposing to completely eliminate the IHSS program if the federal government does not produce $6.9 billion in additional funding for California's budget by July 15, 2010. If the federal government does provide the requested $6.9 billion in new funds, the Governor is still proposing to cut $77.9 million by reducing state funding for wages at a cap of $8.60 per hour and another $872.6 million through cuts in services to consumers with a functional index score below 4.

FEDERAL JUDGE HALTS CUTS TO IHSS HOURS AND SERVICES!

On Monday (October 19), Judge Claudia Wilkens granted a preliminary injunction against the IHSS cuts that were scheduled to take place on November 1st.

What this means is that the State cannot implement cuts to home care hours or services until the court has had the opportunity to rule on whether these cuts are legal.

The court ruling is yet another huge victory in our continued fight to protect the home care program and our clients.
